Hi, I'm Coach Nancy, and this is me and the toughest client I ever had, my husband Dean. Helping him lose 100 pounds (and keep it off) was just what I needed to discover how to show you how to make weight loss easier and in a way that fits your busy lifestyle.
When Dean started Get Fit NH, our training gym, and continued to get healthier, it was natural for me to join him. What I didn't realize at the time is how much I would love it! The physical part came first. I started training with Dean as my coach, along with a group of mostly other men, who enjoyed pushing me to be stronger. The nutrition piece came naturally as we got healthier we wanted to complete the puzzle.
If I’m honest, when I look back, I was always happy with how I looked and felt. I was always in good health and could do anything I wanted. I enjoyed it when people would say, ‘wow, you are strong,’ or when I helped right alongside them instead of saying, 'I can't do that.’ But now I am older. While others are settling in and starting to say "I can't do that," or "I need a break," I'm moving forward. I haven't slowed down—in fact I have probably sped up! Getting started is most often the challenging part of losing weight and staying fit, but once you get going, watch out world!
It's never too late to take action. Dean and I had our first two kids by the time we were twenty, and didn't plan on having any more. Surprise! We were 35 when I got pregnant with the first of an additional 4 more children - yeah, I am kinda busy. Now I am a grandmother (call me "Gigi") and loving it!
Life is busy, and setting time aside to "eat healthy" is simply one more thing to add to the list. As just a normal business owner with three homeschooled kids still at home, I have this challenge as well.
Normal? What is that anyway? I may be normal, but I don't want to be average. I don't want to cave into idea that it is normal to be overweight—even just a few pounds—just because of age. Age is a number but I don't want it to define me. Being a grandma doesn't define me as old. I'm a grandma who wants to skydive at 90! I’m not settling and I’m moving forward—I want my health, my attitude, my personality, my life to define me no matter how old I am.
Many of the people I meet don't want to be average, but don't know what to do about it.
My true passion, the reason I am a coach, is to help people think big and reach high. It takes work, - hard work - but if I can do it, and Dean can do it, then you can do it too!
Ever been on a diet that made you count calories, or stick to certain kinds of food all the time? Eat "x" amount of grams of this, or "y"amount of calories of that? That really is the old way of thinking about feeding our bodies. Do calories count? Of course! But there is a way to eat the right amount of food without carrying a calculator.
It's a classic mistake a lot of people make when they first starting trying to lose weight. Eating too few calories in an attempt to lose weight faster, and an exercise program that depends on tons of cardio.
That is a big no-no, because you actually lose lean muscle, which is what fuels your metabolism. When you start eating normally again you usually wind up with more bodyfat than before. And then the cycle starts all over again. BOO!
Good News: You don't have to starve yourself to lose bodyfat and get healthier.
More About "strength training" - Ladies, let's have a talk that you are probably not going to want to hear. "Cardio" is a muscle killer. You have to MAKE the body want to grow stronger, and there are tons of ways to do it. Barbells, dumbells, kettlebells, TRX - even bodyweight exercises done right will do it. The tool isn't as important as getting in the gym consistently and getting it done. You won't get big and bulky lifting weights, you will get that lean, long, toned look. Stop spinning (your wheels), start lifting!
I've been coaching nutrition now for a long time. I have been fortunate enough to help hundreds of people lose thousands of pounds. Over the years Dean and I have coached nutrition a number of different ways. We made some mistakes along the way too. Here's the big one; we focused on telling people WHAT to eat instead of showing them step-by-step HOW to make it easier to eat - to make it a part of who you are, not just something you do.
Now I know you all know how to get the food from your plate to your fork to your mouth. But permanent weight loss isn't all about how much of what kinds of food to eat, calorie counting, deprivation, or endless dieting.
It's about creating the daily habits in our lives that make eating easy and enjoyable, every time.
Think about it. When life is good – our stress is low, we are enjoying our job, the kids are all healthy, the weather is nice, and whatever else makes us happy, it’s easier to stay focused on that new diet plan.
But life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. Who knew? :)
So be honest, when life gets rough, what do we fall back on with our eating?
If you are anything like me, you do what comes naturally, in other words, you do what you are in the habit of doing. You fall back on the default “you”, and that just makes sense.
That’s why we don’t just want to have a list of things “to do”. We need to create habits that work for us, not against us!
True Story. Diets stink, and for most people they just don't work.
Complicated eating plans, messy points systems, and counting calories just aren't "real world".
Here's what you need instead:
“I appreciate the little by little approach you are taking with us. I can manage the incremental changes without feeling too stressed out, and I'm slowly shifting to better eating without the panic alarm going off in my brain.
I'm eating so much less than I have been for about a year, and I can see some pounds have slowly dropped as well."
“I called and wanted to talk calories. The answer was 'No, let's talk eating healthy'.
I was dieting and lost 55 lbs. but really didn't know how or what to eat so I would put the weight back on. Now my whole mindset has changed. I am not on a diet, I am making healthy choices and I feel great. I would recommend this program to anybody. I have more energy climbing ladders, jumping in and out of the boat.
Mentally I feel better about myself. My knees, feet and back feel the biggest difference. I am happy, lighter man."
"I can't even fully express the difference it makes to have "permission" to be less than perfect with this process. I have done more than my fair share of starving and bingeing as a result of trying to be the perfect eater. It is unsustainable and makes me miserable. I can be successful at this.
This is a big change for me.”
Women are different than men when it comes to taking time for themselves. We see it over and over again. You put others before you. It's just what you do; really it's who you are. And we get it.
What we love doing is showing you how to take care of yourself without feeling guilty, or like someone else is not getting your attention. Step-by-step.
Don't keep waiting for the "perfect" time you know will never come.
"Hunger is not an emergency, and waiting to eat until I'm truly hungry helps me to make better choices, eat slower, and really enjoy the taste of my food. I've learned that I am an emotional eater way more than I thought I was....still working on that!
I'm continuing to train myself to make the right choices and when I eat healthy, it's amazing how much better I feel and function, both physically and emotionally."
“Just wanted to thank-you for the good advice. I worked our plan, ran some errands, picked up some groceries, and stayed successful until I was hungry for dinner. Definitely wasn't easy but I got through it. Thanks for everything!”
My coaching philosophy is unique in the industry. I am a female coach in a field dominated by men. I am a female coach who recognizes that training women is different than training men. What drives men is different than what drives women, but at the core of it, for me, it comes down to the fact that I’m training people. A real person. Their stories, their motivations, their need to be seen as a valued and valuable presence at the gym drives how I coach. What I want most as a coach is to foster an environment where everyone is comfortable, feels like they are welcomed, and that they belong.
And I know deep down that if I can help one person, they will in turn—even without meaning to—help those around them. A mom wants to eat better so she starts eating more veggies. Those veggies are always there, so maybe hubby and kids eat more too. It starts with one person and spreads. If I can help one person stick with it in order to see that change, to not settle for being average, I'm all in. Will you join me?
You have tried a million "diets" and they just haven't stuck. What makes you think this will be any different? And you are sick of not getting lasting results.
That question hits the nail on the head, and different is the key word. You need guidance, not another fancy plan. Someone who can help you figure out what to do next, especially when you get stuck. Someone you can talk to and will provide accountability.
That's the power of coaching. That's the ProCoach difference.
There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution, and we recognize ProCoach is not for everyone. Our desire is you be successful in reaching your goals and sustaining your progress. We want to make sure you know what you are getting into and are prepared to do what it takes to make lasting change.
