Sometimes You Gotta Do It Anyway

doitWhere did January go? It’s been a weird winter here in the Northeast. Not much snow, which isn’t making my cross country skiing friends very happy. Seems like we are just kind of slogging along, waiting for more sunshine and spring.

Soooooo….enough of the small talk, let’s get down to it.

How are those resolutions coming along?

You know, the ones we made when the excitement of the New Year is here? Dang Nab It! This year is going to be different!

And then life happens. The winter gets long, and our enthusiasm fades. Hard work has a way of sapping the life out of you sometimes. I am right there with you.

So what are we going to do about it?

Here’s one suggestion when you don’t feel like doing something, like getting up and training, or prepping breakfast for the next day.

Do it anyway.

“Yeah, thanks a lot genius-boy, you’re a big help.”

I look at it this way. I can either do it and get it over with (hey, get real, that’s the way it is sometimes) or feel guilty about not doing it afterward, and start down a cycle of beating myself up it, which usually leads to skipping more days and maybe chocolate chip cookies.

How did I get 5 pounds heavier this month?

This is life. At times this is MY life.

As I am writing this I have already had one conference call, have two more this afternoon, and an in person meeting with one of my team members. I traveled last week so I am behind on my “regular” work. Skipping my planned training session today would be really easy to justify in my mind.

Easy is not always better. Better is Better. Hitting the gym for an hour is going to do me a lot more good in the long AND short run than by staying behind this keyboard.

I don’t feel like it.

I am going to do it anyway.

Who is with me?
